Sustainable Stitches

Fashion Show Event

Join us Wednesday, February 8, 2023 for a sustainable fashion event

Pickering College is thrilled to announce that Grade 12 students Shyam Subramanyam & Brooklyn Tobias will be hosting their very own fashion show, Sustainable Stitches, at Pickering College. Shyam and Brooklyn undertook this project because they believe that change starts with all of us and fast fashion is an issue that needs to be addressed. After writing research papers on the environmental and societal impact of fast fashion through the GLP program in Grade 11, they decided to work together to create their own fashion that would focus on highlighting sustainable small designers from our local community. The event will take place on February 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST and tickets will be sold online for $10.00 each. The event will feature a runway with multiple looks, refreshments, as well as a speaker’s panel led by the showcased designers.

Date: Wednesday, February 8, 2023

Time: 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  EST

Location: Pickering College Meeting Room

Revolution Now aims to create visibility, opportunity and community for traditionally marginalized and racialized people. They also strive to be environmentally responsible in all that we do.

Their shirt designs are all created by local artists who proudly represent their respective identities. Each shirt is designed to highlight the excellence of given communities and to generate funds to further their success. Eight dollars from the sale of each shirt will be donated to a charity that supports the highlighted community. Revolution Now is proud to produce conscientious clothing that is ethically and Canadian made.

The proceeds generated from the ticket sales will go towards purchasing a sewing machine for Pickering College. The goal of the initiative is to create an environment at the school where students can upcycle their own clothes to mitigate overconsumption and promote sustainability past the fashion show.
